Jeff Lee - (Author of Finding Wawu and the (Embodied) Connect and Care Theory) - "It was while working on a national suicide crisis line, that I noticed it was the most disconnected, depressed and suicidal who were also the most authentic and kindest people ever. They could take me with them into this profound mode of joining that arose in the absence of our words and feelings, a place of gratitude, where curiosity, openness, acceptance, forgiveness and kindness, gave them the permission to seek safety, security and hope. The (embodied) connect and care theory attempts to describe this wordless joining experience, that can move us to become the person we most want to be."
Belinda Lee - (Co-writer of 'Finding Wawu') "Having acquired meningitis at three months of age, I didn't know I lost most of my hearing, why I thought I must be too dumb for school, why I frustrated my parents so much that they called me needy, why I zoned out in grade two when my teacher tied my left hand, the one that I used to cup behind my good left ear to hear with, behind my back, nobody knew. I never had dreams and had no access to my feelings and body sensations that held my emotional memories of the past. I would control everything I did and collapse and go small whenever my control failed or I thought I hurt someone. Most doctors believed in the 60s that babies would not remember pain but I did, I vividly recall every frightening moment, the dress I wore, my grandpop visiting with a hand puppet and the picture on the wall I spent days staring at to shut my pain out and my body down. But I was lucky to remember, because I could go back into those painful memories as an adult and slowly make sense of why my nervous system kept me always at a distance from myself throughout life and the ones that I loved the most."
History - The (Embodied) Connect and Care Theory
It was while working on a national suicide crisis line, that I noticed it was the most disconnected, depressed and suicidal who were also the most authentic and kindest people ever. They could take me with them into this profound mode of joining that arose in the absence of our words and feelings, a place of gratitude, where curiosity, openness, acceptance, forgiveness and kindness, gave them the permission to seek safety, security and hope.
The (embodied) connect and care theory attempts to describe this wordless joining experience, that can move us to become the person we most want to be and why we have become so lost in a modern world that keeps us all disconnected from ourselves.

Terms
We do not provide for emergency situations or support through social media. Our services are face to face or phone conversations at a mutually agreed time and location. If you have any serious concerns for self or others please call Emergency 000 or Lifeline 13 11 14.
I don't have an office, what I offer is experiential movement (moving together), rather than a clinical experience confined within four walls. Moving or meeting together builds somatic awareness through interoception, to step back from what the nervous system is trying to tell us. We are private individuals who wish to offer education and community support by presenting a different way of understanding what is needed to build resilience within ourselves, our children and community and support those facing mental health difficulties.
In the interests of first doing no harm, I reserve the right to withdraw support or refer to protect the psychological and emotional well-being of any client or mentee where I see fit with or without providing any explanation. Ongoing counselling is not part of our community supports and can be discussed separately.
About Theories
When we think about the term theory, it is often used to mean a hunch, a guess or a belief that is held with or without proof. Whether it is an assumption, rational or a hypothesis based somewhat in fact, it remains always open, flexible and grows and refines itself due to feedback, criticism and testing. To the average person, a theory might be true, or it might be false. Regardless, the observations are in the hands of the beholder to form their own conclusions. I encourage you to become a curious researcher and find your own way through what I have to offer as I present to you, my own observations, facts and expanded ideas, right or wrong, in the hope that it draws on your experiences and understandings, to reflect on how best we may serve others who face psychological or emotional difficulties. The (embodied) connect and care theory is about creating a good enough, non-technical, non-clinical story, a story about our past that kind of makes sense to our adult selves so we can move forward and allow ourselves the permission to know, that there is a vulnerable part of us that lays beneath our nervous system, that has longings and needs that may never have been met. The theory thanks and honours the nervous system’s role in protecting us and adapting to survival difficulties and stressors that we face through life. Without facing those difficulties, we may not be here today searching for how best we may serve others.
